Last Day of International Zine Month!

It’s the last day of International Zine Month! Have you finished your 24 hour zine thing? Last summer I started a zine band in three weeks. We wrote and recorded 4 lo-fi pop punk songs all about zines, then played a show that closed the 2010 Portland Zine Symposium. We wrote a song about the 24 Hour Zine Challege. Go here to listen to it.

Did you know that July 21st is now International Zine Library Day? Well, Barnard hosted an event and the wrap up of it can be read here and a photo gallery of the event can be seen here.

What am I doing for the last day of International Zine Month? I’m going to a meeting for the Portland Zine Symposium! Today is the last day to get your workshop proposals in! Go here to do fill out an application.

I hope everyone had an excellent International Zine Month! See you again next year!

International Zine Month Day 5 Zine Shirt: 2009 London Zine Symposium

2009 London Zine SYmposium.

I got this shirt on my awesome trip to the UK and France in 2009 where I met lots of great friends. I hope to make it back again soon for crucial hang out and drinking real ale!

Happy 4th day of International Zine Month!

It looks like the lovely folks at QZAP mentioned IZM.

Zine World also mentioned International Zine Month. They brought up a great point, this is the perfect time to show your zine love by singing up for the Revenge of Print! Revenge of Print was started by the fine folks at Atomic books in Baltimore and has been taken up by other fine purveyors of independent media. They were tired of people saying that print was dead and they challenge anyone who has ever made a zine to make at least one in 2o11. Read more here.

Also, if you are in Toronto tonight, the Orderly Disorder: Zine Librarians in Circulation will be performing. Go check them out!

More IZS stuff!

Cherylsjournals talks about International Zine Month on her blog here!

24hour zine thing writes about it here.

Broken Pencil has written something about IZM and states that they are using the month to profile zine creators and zine events. Read more about it here.

I have also added more events to the event page here.

And in a bit of a silly display/celebration, I will be posting photos of me in zine related shirts for as long as my shirts last. I have been to 10 Portland Zine Symposiums and a dozen other zine events in 4 countries so I  have at least 20 shirts. I’m open to suggestions of shirts to add to the collection! Check out my dailybooth here. So far the shirts I have worn are: a 2011 Chicago Zine fest, Queer Zine Archive Project “Zinesters do it on the photocopier”, 2005 Portland Zine Symposium.

Let me know what is going on in your area and I’ll post it!

It’s here! Happy Intenational Zine Month!

Hey everyone! Happy International zine month! Do you have any big plans for the month? I have updated a few of the events but I know there are more out there so let me know.

I would have done more work on this but I’m hard at work working on the Portland Zine Symposium, the Zines On Toast (website coming soon!) tour, and running a business or two plus working on my garden.

The Portland Zine Symposium organizers plan on having several fund raising events they are working on leading up to the symposium this year. If you are in Portland be on the look out for movie night, zinester spelling bee, the 24 hour zine challenge and more!

Portland Zine Symposium 2010 may not be in July for International Zine Month this year, but now you’ll have time to finish your zine project in July for the event!

Here’s the e-mail we sent out earlier today:
Dear PZS Supporters,
We’ve got a couple major announcements for you! First, are winning artwork for PZS 2010 has been chosen! Our winning artist is Lisa Rosalie Eisenberg and you can view the poster here, but if you check Portland Zine Symposium website, you’ll see her fabulous work has been applied to our website’s design!
Thanks to all who submitted artwork for the 2010 poster art call, it was a challenging design to pick the work to represent the convention this year. We would also like to announce that a close second was artwork from Brian Kaas, so we plan on making a special edition button from his submission, to be available at PZS, as well as printing his poster art on the back of the program.
Now here’s the news you’ve been waiting for!

Registration for the 10th annual Portland Zine Symposium

will open up at 4pm (PST) today, April 6th.

When you register, be on the lookout for a special question in your form, “Would you like to preorder a Special Edition, 10th Anniversary Program?” It adds just $1 to your donation total and ensures you will get the guaranteed-to-be-popular, zine style program we’re cooking up to help commemorate our 1th anniversary!
Also, remember that we’re moving from the Smith Ballroom to PSU’s Main Gym this year. This means more space and more tables! It also means that PZS has to pay a ton more money to book the space. You can support us a variety of ways, but this year we’ve adding some special gifts for supporters able to contribute donations. You can check out the donation levels here and you can donate just by clicking here!
As always, we love help at the event, too. Volunteers at the event get cool things like t-shirts and our undying gratitude.
